I would like to start by saying how much of an honour and privilege it is to serve as the Men’s Captain of Nene Park Golf Club for the 2026/2027 golfing year, especially with this year being the 50th anniversary of the golf club.
Thorpewood Golf course was opened in 1975, and this was celebrated by the course last year, however the club was formed in 1976. The first Captain of the club that year was my father Barry Tyler, and so to be given this opportunity 50 years after my father, makes this year even more special for myself.
I would like to thank my predecessor, Colum Burke, for his hard work as Captain throughout the previous year. Serving as Vice Captain to Colum, has given me an insight into my year ahead. There are too many to mention by name, but I would also like to thank anyone who has helped me over the last year, your support and guidance is greatly appreciated.
I have been a member of Nene Park Golf Club since both Thorpewood and Orton Meadows clubs merged, but have been a member of several other clubs before this. I can say with great certainty that this club is different. Nene Park Golf Club and its members made both me and my family feel welcome like no other.
Over the course of this year the club has many matches against other clubs from the area, including several friendly matches. I would really like to see some new faces put their names forward for these friendly matches, as they are a great way to introduce yourself to some friendly competition matches before maybe playing in some serious matches in the future. If you have any questions or require any information about the matches then please do not hesitate to pull me for a chat whenever you see me.
The club also has a roll up most Saturdays where anyone can take part. If you are new to golf and looking to become a member and obtain a handicap, this is a great way to go about this. Again if you have any questions then please look for me at the golf course and I can point you in the right direction.
For my Captains Charity this year, I have decided to continue to support the charity chosen by past Captain Steve Butler, and that is MIND CPSL, a charity that helps people with Mental Health challenges. A condition that all of us, at some point, have suffered with or know someone that has suffered with.
Finally, all that is left to say is have a great golfing season, look out for me around the course and feel free to put you name with me in any of the club competitions.
