Club Captain

A message from the Captain

I would like to start by saying what an honour and privilege it is to be elected as Club Captain 2024/2025 for Nene Park Golf Club.

It is going to be a particular poignant year for me as it will be my last full year at the Club.

Serving as Vice Captain to Allan has given me an insight to my year ahead. Allan has been a great mentor and has prepared me well, which I owe many thanks for, I would also like to thank the Chairman for his guidance throughout the year.

I am especially excited to work with Helen Biggs as Ladies Captain and Richard Sowell as Seniors Captain. I am hoping some of Helens organizational skills will rub off on me. I would also like to welcome Colum Burke as my Vice Captain. Colum is a familiar face around the course, and I am looking forward to working closely with him throughout my Captaincy year.

I have been at the Club long enough to see many Captains come and go over the years. Captains that have done great things and continue to do so. I am hoping some of this has sunk in and I can carry on their good work.

As many of you will know, I am an advocate for supporting new members, and will continue to do so. I am hoping to see newer members set their availability for the interclub friendlies via the V1 app. The plan is to pair newer members with seasoned members to introduce them to Match play competitions. Hopefully we will find the next Rory McIlroy or Tommy Fleetwood!

I would also like to encourage the members to participate in the Mixed Competitions. I know Helen would appreciate as much support as possible.

We are lucky enough to belong to a club that has two great but very different courses. Thorpe Wood for the big hitters, and Orton Meadows for the Straight hitters. Both courses offer different challenges.

I will be continuing with a nearest the pin prize on the 11th hole where you can win a sleeve of ProV1 golf balls. To enter this, you must support the Halfway House and donate to the Captains Charity.

I will also be offering a prize on the 1st hole on each Sunday Competition. Donate £1 to the Charity box in the starters hut, and if you are lucky enough to get a Hole in One on the first, you will win £100 cash!

(Please let the staff in the Hut know of your intentions)

For my Captains Charity this year I have decided to support Mind CPSL a charity that helps people with Mental Health challenges. A condition that all of us, at some point, have suffered with or know someone that has suffered with.

Finally, all that is left to say is, have a great golfing season, look out for me on the course and come and say hi! Alternatively, I will attempt to be in the starters hut every Saturday morning.
